Who are Red Deer Country?

Established in 2013, Red Deer country combine the very best technology and software with traditional values and genuine local knowledge. The internet has revolutionised the way estate agents work and has led to the establishment of many online agents – an undoubted cost saving but often operating from far flung corners of the country they lack any local knowledge or personal touch. Red Deer Country cover the whole of West Somerset but, unlike many traditional agents, we have just one central office meaning we can keep our overheads down and our fees reasonable.

A New Approach

The internet has revolutionised the way we buy and sell our homes with 90% of us using it as a first port of call. This has lead to the establishment of many online agencies – an undoubted cost saving alternative to the ‘high street’ agency with high running costs – but local knowledge and the personal touch is lacking – often operating from far flung corners of the country.

Our Personal Agents provide that extra service which standard online estate agencies do not offer. Whilst we provide highly effective online property marketing services, appointing a local Personal Agent to each of our clients ensures your property journey is a smooth experience, with that personal contact to support you along the way.

Our Personal Agents

  • Are local to your property, with local knowledge of the West Somerset Red Deer country area (unlike online agencies).

  • Are available at times and on days convenient to you (including outside of office hours and at weekends).

Zoe McCanlis – <i>Director</i>

Zoe McCanlis – Director

Zoe joined Red Deer Country in 2014 after travelling the world and went on to become Senior Sales Negotiator and Valuer before becoming Director in 2021. Zoe has particular interest and expertise in farms, equestrian and rural properties. Having lived in the area her whole life, she enjoys all country pursuits, eventing, skiing, cooking, and interior design.

Elizabeth Pavey – <i>Director</i>

Elizabeth Pavey – Director

Liz joined the team in 2019 as Lettings Negotiator before coming Director in 2021. Having previously run her family’s property development and rental portfolio, she has extensive knowledge of the property management sector. A stickler for detail, Liz takes great pride in keeping our 150 managed and tenant find rental properties in order. Outside of work Liz enjoys spending time with friends and family, horse riding, trips to Cornwall and doting on her cats.

Geoff Metcalf – <i>Consultant</i>

Geoff Metcalf – Consultant

Geoff started his career as a Chartered Accountant but has since had a wide ranging career including roles as Chief Executive of a Quoted Company and as property and investment advisor to the Ruler of Dubai. A long term involvement in property management led in 2013 to the decision to set up Red Deer Country with Ray Laflin to provide a new and innovative approach to sales agency. Since handing the reins to Zoe & Liz in 2021, Geoff has remained heavily involved in the day to day running of the business and is still on hand to offer advice with his extensive and impressive knowledge of the property industry. He is cricket mad and likely to ask you to join Crowcombe Cricket Club!

Ray Laflin – <i>Consultant</i>

Ray Laflin – Consultant

Ray is an experienced surveyor having been a fellow of the R.I.C.S for more than 35 years. He has worked throughout his career in the property profession in London, Australia and around the UK. He is now the self-proclaimed 'oldest Saturday boy in the country'. During leisure time Ray’s interests include all kinds of sport, (especially tennis, golf and cricket), Ordnance Survey maps, hill walking and world travel.

Kimberley Clark– Lettings Manager

Kim joined the team in August 2023 as a Lettings Negotiator and quickly progressed to Lettings Manager after completing her ARLA qualifications in May 2024. Outside of work she enjoys walking with her husband and their dogs and baking all sorts of delicious treats!
